draft – Volunteering
This page is underdevelopment; if you have stumbled acrossi it by accident then you are probably looking for Volunteering
There’s no escaping the fact that orienteering leans heavily on its participants to volunteer. As a club, Harlequins breaks down the various tasks to share the workload as widely as possible.
On the day of a bigger event we work in teams delivering one aspect – car parking, sorting out the entries and enquiries, running the start, running the IT and download, providing First Aid cover and collecting the controls in afterwards. It’s a great way to meet fellow club members, it is organised in shifts so that you still get to run a course and you get to compete half price! Find out more about these roles and how to sign up about these roles and how to sign up to the team system or check out the current team members.
(nice to have: revise helpers information to be more accessable to novices)
Before the event the area has to be mapped, permission to hold the event sought from the landowner, the courses planned and and the whole thing organised. Scroll down for links to further information and guidance about these roles, and the training and support available. Local events such as the three league series are the best introduction to planning and organising, and mapping too. Contact one of the league coordinators if you would like to give it a go.
Running the club. Our Annual General Meeting is held every October and appoints a committee that meets every couple of months or so. and a list of the current list of the current committee members members. (nice to have: add brief job description paragraphs)
